Our Caletra 2016 excels by earning a whopping 90 points and taking home the bronze medal in the The New York International Wine Competition, the only international wine competition judged by real trade buyers.
Why are we so thrilled with this medal? This TRADE ONLY blind judging panel, who gather in the heart of New York City, is comprised of retail store buyers, sommeliers, restaurant beverage directors, hoteliers, distributors and importers who judge wines both by their category and actual price. These judges, whose livelihood rely upon their skill set, truly know what the consumer wants, as they receive on a daily basis the feedback from the consumer of what is good and what will sell.
Our Caletra 2016 was one of over 1400 wine submissions from over 23 countries, making us especially thrilled we walked home with a high score and medal. We guarantee our quality with not only with our education and endless love for our occupation, but now also with awards won at international competitions.
Caletra, our flagship wine, is crafted from Sangiovese with the addition of Cabernet and Merlot, chosen for their complementary characteristics and is aged 12 months in lightly toasted oak barrels. It displays an intense ruby red color with purple hues and has intense aromas of red fruit, vanilla, dark chocolate and oak, as well of nuances of sweet spices, which give it complexity.
It is a perfect accompaniment to red meats such as flame grilled filet mignon, slow rustic stews and aged cheese.
